Great day for Inland’s Pretorius in Windhoek

2013-02-01 00:00

THERE was no stopping KZN Inland opening bowler Ruhan Pretorius on the first day of the CSA Provincial Three-Day Challenge match in Windhoek yesterday.

Pretorius took seven for 36 in 12 overs after Inland had asked Namibia to bat.

Pretorius was backed up by captain Kyle Nipper, who took three for 18 as the home team’s first innings closed on 128 all out.

No fewer than 21 wickets fell on day one, as Inland were then dismissed for 177.

Brad Moses stood tall for Inland with an unbeaten 64 that came off 125 balls and included six fours.

He shared in a 68-run stand with Nipper (28) and a partnership of 30 with a swinging Tabraiz Shamsi who bashed 24.

Louis Klazinga, Christi Viljoen and Bernard Scholtz picked up three wickets apiece for Namibia.

The irrepressible Pretorius grabbed another wicket — his eighth of the day — as Namibia were left tottering once again with their total one run for one wicket.

In Pretoria, KZN Coastal elected to bat and made 291 all out with Keshav Maharaj slamming an unbeaten 114 in three hours of breezy batsmanship that was peppered with 10 fours and five sixes off the 119 balls he faced.

Northerns were 34 for one at stumps.
