Great line-up of SA films on SABC 2

2009-09-07 00:00

AS South Africa celebrates its diverse cultural heritage this month, television viewers can look forward to some great local content on SABC2.

The channel will be screening the fast-moving thriller, Die Beskermengel, at 10 pm today. Set on the west coast, the film, which stars Shaurn Arnolds and Tanya van Graan, tells the story of an ex-cop who has to protect a beautiful woman from being found by a criminal gang after she witnesses a murder.

Other films to be screened include Leon Schuster’s Oh Shucks, Here Comes Untag, which will be broadcast on September 12 at 4 pm. The film tells the story of Kwagga Robertse, a rugged bachelor farmer living in a fictitious African country, Nambabwe, and features a bit of romance, action and adventure as well as plenty of Schuster humour.

Goodbye Bafana, which can be seen at 10 pm on Septmber 14, is the true story of a white South African racist whose life was profoundly altered by Nelson Mandela, the black prisoner he guarded for 20 years.

Schuster fans can enjoy a second helping of comedy with the screening of Panic Mechanic on September 19 at 4 pm. The comedian plays Shucks, who loses his job due to affirmative action and then applies for a job at a stress academy. But it’s not long before Shucks discovers that his new boss, Jack Paddaman, is as crooked as they come.

At 4 pm on September 21, viewers can see Noah’s Ark, a film about Moses Mokoena, an expat former activist who has become a successful doctor with a successful psychotherapist wife and over-achieving daughters.

The month’s films screenings are rounded out by the ever popular There’s a Zulu On My Stoep, which can be seen at 4 pm on September 26, Princess Magogo on September 27 and Land Of Thirst, on September 28.
