Greg Minaar: World mountain bike champion stars in documentary

2009-02-22 00:00

Pietermaritzburg-born, world downhill mountain bike champion Greg Minnaar stars in a documentary that will premiere at local cinemas on April 9.

The documentary contains footage from 16 countries, interviews and great stunts by Minnaar and other top names.

The premiere is scheduled to coincide with the first leg of the 2009 World Mountain Bike Championships to be hosted in Pietermaritzburg.

Titled The Tipping Point, the film was created, directed and produced by American Clay Porter (24).

Though a wrist injury has prevented Porter from taking part in mountain bike events, it hasn’t stopped him from enjoying the sport. To date, he has produced seven movies.

“I travel with the teams in order to get footage and I do have some sponsorship.

“At the moment I am really enjoying this particular subject, but later on I would like to produce something else,” said Porter.

Said Minnaar, “It has been really cool to be a part of [the film], but also [required] a lot of hard work.

“We only had five days to do the shooting and the weather hasn’t been that good so we have had to work really fast when the gap to shoot opened.”

Tickets to the premiere will be on sale at the door at Nu Metro Cascades at R50 each.
