Grisly find: puzzle over human bones

2009-08-10 00:00

A HERDSMAN who went to fetch his cattle in Pietermaritzburg’s France township was shocked to find human bones in an advanced stage of decomposition yesterday.

According to a community member who did not want to be identified, it is thought that the bones belong to a person who has been missing for the past six months. “So far we are still trying to put pieces of the puzzle together as it is believed that the person is from Kranskop and only came to the city to work as a street vendor. All I could see was just the head … the dogs had already started eating the bones,” he said.

SAPS spokesman Senior Superintendent Henry Budhram confirmed the incident. “At the moment we do not know who the person is, and we have sent the body for a postmortem,” he said.
