‘Gruesome scene’: Man found stabbed to death

2010-03-01 00:00

POLICE responding to reports from the public about an abandoned car in Princess Margaret Drive, Alexandra Park, on Saturday morning, followed a trail of blood to the body of the driver, who was found lying dead from multiple stab wounds about 200 m away.

The victim was identified as Eric Thokozani Ndlovu (33) of Imbali.

South African Police Service spokeswoman Inspector Joey Jeevan said he had sustained at least 15 stab wounds all over the head and body.

“It was a very gruesome scene,” she said.

The motive for the murder is unclear, as Ndlovu’s wallet and identity documents were found in his possession, and no apparent attempt was made to rob him of his maroon Toyota Tazz, although the ignition keys are missing.

The inside of the car and the area around it were stained with blood, indicating that Ndlovu was in all likelihood attacked in the vehicle before the assailants fled.

The police are investigating the possibility that Ndlovu may have attended a concert held near the Pietermaritzburg Oval on Friday night.

Anybody with information that can assist the police is asked to contact Captain Piet van Zanten at 033 845 7722 or 079 500 0592.
