Guard helps prevent 3 robberies at complex

2014-08-25 00:00

A SECURITY guard who was hired after a robbery in a secure complex in Pietermaritzburg is being hailed a hero after preventing three house robberies on Thursday night.

Three criminals who gained entry via a fence and were trying to gain access into houses in the complex, were chased off by Sihle Ntanzi.

He told The Witness the criminals returned, but again he spotted them and the police were called.

Ntanzi said the drama started at about 1 am, when it was quiet and everyone was asleep.

“They entered a house three houses away from where I was but fled when I approached. But they returned twice.”

By this time the police were notified, but the suspects ran off.

Resident Hassan Mea, who hired the security guard after he and his wife were attacked in their unit about a week ago, described Ntanzi as a hero.

“We don’t know what they were going to do this time around. Thanks to the security guard who spotted them.

“We called the police but the men were so fast, they just jumped back over the fence and ran off.”

Mea said the description given by the guard made him believe it could be the same men who broke into his house.

The home invaders threatened him and his wife, demanding money before ransacking their home. Mea said at the time he would pay for private security till the security at the complex was improved.
