Gun owners urged to collect licences from greytown SAPS centre

2013-08-23 00:00

PEOPLE who have applied for firearm licences at the Greytown SAPS Firearm Centre are urged to collect them.

Gun owners in Wartburg, Harburg, Ematimatolo, Mapumulo, Muden, New Hanover, Nsuze, Kranskop, Rietvlei and Greytown are affected. They should contact the designated firearms officer at 033 413 9003/ 67 or visit the offices at rooms 29 and 30 at Greytown police station, between 8 am and 4 pm Monday to Friday, with their identity documents and old firearm licences, said police spokesperson Lieutenant Joey Jeevan.

“They can also e-mail the office at greytown-dfo @saps.gov.za to verify if their new licences are ready for collection.

“Those who are in possession of firearms for safekeeping on behalf of other licence holders, must ensure that they are in possession of an SAP 539 (permission to store a firearm), which is issued only by a designated firearm official.”

Applicants who applied in 2008 should renew their competency certificates as the period of five years will be expiring in December 2013.

Jeevan said licences and certificates not collected before September 6 will be returned to the National Central Firearm Registry Office.
