Habana: Standing up to take South Africa back

2008-04-24 00:00

THE Movement for Good, which aims at inspiring every person to act and become involved in creating the South Africa that we all want to live in, was launched yesterday at the Apartheid Museum in Johannesburg.

“The Movement for Good starts with you,” said spokesman Bryan Habana.

The vision for the social networking platform is based on the fact that approximately 80% of South Africans have access to a cellphone, which will be harnessed “for good”. A technological platform has been developed to enable people to join via cellphone, becoming part of a movement for positive action.

The platform will send weekly SMSes with inspiring and practical information on taking action for individuals, families and community groups. To receive information most relevant to them, members will clarify their specific areas of interest and provide basic profile information.

For the 10% of South Africans who have access to the Internet, the Movement for Good website will provide information on how organisations can join the Movement for Good, and links for individuals to support the campaigns of member organisations or to join the social networking platform for good.
