Habana feeling good, could extend his stay in Toulon

CAPE TOWN — Springbok wing Bryan Habana says he is enjoying his stint at French side Toulon and indicated that he could extend his stay at the club.

Habana’s contract with the French and European champions expires in 2016 and he told French website RugbyRama that it could be extended for another season.

Habana (31) also says he is happy to be injury free for the past while. “I feel good in my rugby and my body responds well. I am glad to be spared by injuries. It’s been a while since I felt this good.

“I even played at centre against Stade Français (in a Top 14 match in December 2014) and that went well for me. I put a lot of pressure on myself to do well. I want to keep contributing to the success of Toulon,” he said.

Toulon have lost their last two Top 14 matches (30-6 to Stade Français and 16-12 to Montpellier), which leaves them third on the table, behind Stade and Clermont Auvergne.

Habana said their intensity and physicality are not where they want them to be and the players are eager to make amends. “There are four important games ahead of the break for the Six Nations tournament,” Habana said of the encounters with Racing Metro (Top 14, this weekend), Ulster and Scarlets (European Champions Cup) and Bayonne (Top 14).
