Hair dyed 56 colours for a cause and a record

2013-02-25 00:00

NOTTINGHAM Road resident, Ali Engelbrecht has her sights set on creating a new record for the Guinness Book of Records.

Engelbrecht, who is passionate about creating awareness about cancer, has entered herself into the book for having the most colours (56) in her hair at one time.

She dyed her hair last week and some of the colours include orange, red, yellow, blue, green, purple and pink.

She said: “We are trying to raise as much awareness as we can and we also want to raise money.”

She sent her application last Wednesday and has not received feedback yet.

If her application is accepted she said she would be the first person to hold this record.

She will keep her multi-coloured hair until Saturday, March 2 and then shave it for the 10th Annual Shavathon in Nottingham Road.

Engelbrecht, a lecturer and the founding member of Women in Business, has lost an adopted child and her mother-in-law to cancer.

She said she was very passionate about being vocal about cancer and encouraged people to get involved and show their support.

She said they planned to raise at least R30 000 at the Shavathon in Nottingham Road this year, which was double the amount they raised last year.
