Halted: Developer agrees to put Hayfields Superspar on ice

2012-04-12 00:00

THE building of the Superspar in Hayfields has been temporarily halted, by the mutual agreement of both the developer and the Msunduzi Municipality.

They reached agreement before the hearing of an application by the municipality at the High Court yesterday for a temporary interdict to be granted to stop the development of the Spar until the plans are approved.

Developer Nick Christodoulou of Mills Circle undertakes not to erect any building contravening the National Building Regulations and Building Standards Act.

Christodoulou, in his statement handed in at court, agreed to stop the building pending municipal approval of the plans and specifications that he lodged with the municipality for approval in November last year.

Christodoulou said the application is totally unjustifiable as demolition has been done in accordance with permits he had been granted.

He denied that anything illegal has been done on the site to date.

It also appeared in the papers that are before court that the developer has paid R497 868 for electricity services to be installed in February. — WR.
