‘Hansie’ to hit SA film circuit soon

2008-09-14 00:00

Hansie, the film about Hansie Cronje, the disgraced South African cricket captain, will be premiered to invited guests across South Africa at Nu Metro cinemas in four cities this week.

The premieres will take place at Montecasino in Fourways, Loch Logan in Bloemfontein, Canal Walk in Cape Town and the Pavilion in Durban, presented by MTN and Nu Metro.

Hansie is a brother’s journey to document one man’s story and has been six years in the making.

The film was written by Cronje’s brother, Frans Cronje, and directed by Regardt van den Bergh.

Cronje was one of the most controversial sporting figures of recent times. The news of his involvement with Indian bookmakers and his resulting public confession at the King Commission rocked the international sporting community. The film tells his story, about the fall of a hero and his struggle to rise above his mistakes to start again.

The film, starring Frank Rautenbach as Hansie, is produced by Global Creative Studios, which also made Faith like Potatoes. It opens to the public on Wednesday, September 24.
