Hard work all round

2012-03-06 00:00

THE school rugby season only officially starts on March 17, but some schools got in early practice games on Saturday.

The heat did not help but it did give coaches a chance to see their combinations under pressure.

Westville played a physical George Campbell team and when the score was 0-0 at half time, they realised that the game was not going to be easy.

Fortunately a shower of rain in the second half cooled things down after intense heat in the first half. Westville were able to construct three tries in the second half.

George Campbell had defended doggedly in the first half, but they tired later on. With some fresh legs on the Westville side, the team was galvanised to score well-worked tries.

Wiseman Ndlovu, Keegan Paverd and Thjabo Ngcongo all dotted down. Louis Snyman added two conversions for the home side to win 19-0.

DHS played a practise game against the KZN Development XV and won 31-0. They already have a number of injuries, but were relatively pleased with the four tries they scored.

Northwood hosted Empangeni and had to work hard for a 10-0 win.
