Hayfields: gunmen rob OK supermarket

2010-01-19 00:00

A SHOP manager, cashiers and shoppers were held up at gunpoint by armed robbers at the OK supermarket in Foxon Road, Hayfields, on Sunday.

The robbers made off with money, a computer tower and DVDs.

Police spokeswoman Inspector Joey Jeevan said the hold-up happened at about 7.20 pm.

The manager, Joel Shezi, became suspicious of two men who entered the store pretending to be customers.

He noticed a white Opel Corsa bakkie, occupied by four men, parked outside the door of the shop.

As Shezi went to the back of the store to seek help, he heard a firearm being cocked.

The two men inside the shop approached the four cashiers and produced guns. They ordered shoppers in the store to lie on the floor.

The cashiers complied with the robbers’ instructions to open the tills, and the men removed an undisclosed amount of money, along with the computer tower and DVDs. They escaped in the getaway vehicle.

Anyone with information should contact Inspector Xolani Zondi at 033 845 7722or 083 292 2314, or Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
