THE Royal Symphony: At the Movies with the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra is the concert feature at the Royal Agricultural Show on Sunday at 10.30 am.

The young American conductor and KZNPO music director Daniel Walshaw directs the orchestra and soloists for this exciting performance.

Think of a classic film like Out of Africa and you hear Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto, or Pirates of the Caribbean and the theme tune springs to mind. Audiences can expect to be thrilled all over again with theme tunes from Star Wars, Superman and Pirates of the Caribbean.

Popular songs Moon River, star alongside Mozart’s Andante from Piano Concerto No 21 as used in Elvira Madigan (1967), Rossini’s William Tell Overture, theme tune of The Lone Ranger (1949 & 2013) and the heart-breaking Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana, central music to The Godfather (1972).

A highlight of the concert will be Steve Hofmeyr singing with the orchestra for the first time, performing Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline as featured in Fever Pitch. Also featured are pianist Christopher Duigan, the Drakensberg Boys’ Choir in the award-winning Happy and Durban vocalist Shelley McLean, who sings The Rose and Wind Beneath My Wings. TV’s Andy Capostagno is the host.
