Heart attack after crash

A MAN died of a suspected heart attack after he spent three hours with his two brothers in the cold next to a river after their car plunged over a bridge near Taylor’s Halt yesterday.

Celani Dlamini died on the scene, while one brother was airlifted to Grey’s Hospital and the other was sent to Edendale hospital.

Celani and his brothers, Nkosiyakhe and Lucky, were driving from kwaPata in a grey Toyota Cressida, after visiting another brother, and were on their way home to Ncwadi when they had an accident during the early hours of yesterday morning.

Local resident Gerald Mofokeng told The Witness that they heard a big bang at about 3 am, but did not know the cause of the noise at the time.

“At about 6.30 am I was awoken by a knock at the door. When I opened it, I was greeted by a person whose face was covered in blood. I was shocked at what had happened. He pleaded for help, telling me that they had had an accident at the bridge,” said Mofokeng.

He said Nkosiyakhe Dlamini asked him to call an ambulance, police and their familes. He said he phoned them and alerted the neighbours and then they all rushed to help at the accident scene.

“The car was still on its roof,” said Mofokeng.

He said it was very cold in the area during the early morning. “Nkosiyakhe’s left arm was broken, he had a big cut on his face and he was shivering because of the cold. The others were also in pain,” said Mofokeng.

A family member who was called to the scene, Silo Dlamini, confirmed that the brothers had visited another brother, Sthembiso, in kwaPata.

“They had spent time with Sthembiso because he was injured playing soccer over the weekend.”
