Heart-thumping tracks

Cross country and downhill racing track designer Kim Phillips stands next to the ‘hot seat’ on the Cascades forest track that will host the SA mountain bike championships this weekend.

The rider with the fastest downhill time will get to sit in the hot seat, and it is so named because if he or she is beaten, even by a split second, they will get kicked out of it.

Phillips stands with his design of the tricky turns, bumpy terrain and steep slopes that will host the dare-devil competitors.
