Hijack: Hilton youth’s car stolen, burnt

2012-04-02 00:00

HIJACKERS took 45 seconds to relieve a Hilton youth of his car and valuables early yesterday morning.

Said the 19-year-old, who fears being identified: “I came home at about 12.20 am and a car with its lights off stopped behind me and blocked me. Two guys then jumped out.”

He said he managed to drive a short distance up the driveway to his parents’ home when the men ordered him and his 16-year-old brother out of the car at gunpoint.

“They got everything that was in my car,” he said. “I had a laptop, a wallet, money and some clothes,” he said. The assailants also managed to get his house keys.

“I was shocked and scared when it happened, but I’m fine now,” he added.

The boys’ mother told The Witness yesterday that she was glad both her teenage sons were fine.

“I was at a friend’s house helping her move when I got the call,” she said. “I was devastated and shocked. They both say they’re fine, but I know they’re still devastated.”

She called the incident “pointless”.

“They took the car and everything in it and set it on fire when they got to Edendale.”

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Joey Jeevan confirmed to The Witness that a silver 2007 VW Polo had been found burnt in the Plessislaer area and that police were investigating.
