Eight men have been arrested by the Pietermaritzburg Crime Intelligence Task Team and Organised Crime Unit in connection with truck hijackings, robberies, car hijackings, kidnapping and car theft.

Inspector Joey Jeevan said the men are believed to be part of a syndicate operating in kwaMashu and Chatsworth.

Eleven vehicles, several trucks and numerous truck tyres with an estimated total value of R5,8 million were confiscated.

Three of the men — Jerome Oscar Nxele (32), Futhi Phili (22) and Siphamandla Ngubane (26) — were arrested last Wednesday in the Camperdown area.

They were found in possession of a vehicle that was hijacked in Chatsworth early last week.

On the same day in Chatsworth, police arrested Sunil Singh (42) and Wahab Karrim (44) for receiving and possession of property suspected to be stolen, and the truck hijackings and robberies.

On Thursday, police arrested Malibongwe Innocent Ncobe (27) in Montclair, Durban, for the truck hijackings and business robberies.

On Friday, Langelakhe Thusi (35) was arrested in Clairwood, Durban.

Earlier, Lalaleni Victor Mbanjwa (35) was arrested in Chatsworth and has been linked to truck hijackings in Hilton.
