2014-08-26 00:00

HILTON College’s golfers came out on top at the KZN Schools Golf Championships at the Victoria Country Club last week.

Hilton’s first team, consisting of captain Jarryd Edy, Keagan Thomas, Keaton Bottriell, Guy Waterhouse, Rourke Lauryssen, Chris Woollam, Jason Terblanche and Stewart Hutchinson, claimed an emphatic win of more than 30 shots over rivals Michaelhouse.

Westville’s golfers ended in third place, Kearsney were fourth and Hilton B finished fifth.

Hilton’s B team were also impressive and beat first teams from Maritzburg College, DHS and Glenwood.

Hilton also claimed more honours in the individual competition, with Keagan being crowned the 2014 KZN Champion with scores of 66 and 72, while Guy came third with scores of 75 and 70.

The win was the fifth for Hilton in the eight years of KZN schools’ golf.

Guy also deserves special mention as he was chosen as the number one player in the U18 KZN A team last Friday, even though he is still in Grade 10. He was the only player on the day to shoot an even par round.

Keagan was ranked fifth in the A team and was selected as captain.

Meanwhile, Stewart and Keaton were selected for the KZN B team.

Hilton accounted for four of the 16 boys selected for the two provincial teams and will play in the IPT later this year in Alberton.
