Hilton College hosts Sunfoil Township Cricket Festival

2013-07-09 00:00

HILTON College hosts the Sunfoil Township Cricket Festival, which runs until Friday.

The festival was started a few years ago by Linda Zonde from KZNCU (KZN Cricket Union).

Niels Momberg, CSA schools’ manager, was blown away by last year’s festival and was full of praise for Zonde, KZNCU and the various sponsors who made the event such a success.

Shane Gaffney, director of sport at Hilton College, is no stranger to hosting cricket festivals in and around South Africa.

When he first heard of the Sunfoil Township Festival, Gaffney was thrilled at the possibility of being involved.

Gaffney hopes it will become an annual event at Hilton College.

The format adopted by the organisers is the exciting T20. Four provinces — KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng, Border and Western Province — are represented.

The festival includes 12 U15 teams and 12 U19 teams (380 players, coaches and administrators).

During the week an U19 Sunfoil XI will be selected, and they will play against the U19 KZNCU Academy team on Thursday afternoon, bringing the festival to a close.
