Hilton murder trial set for August

2010-06-24 00:00

THE director of public prosecutions (DPP) intends to prosecute Hilton murder, rape and arson accused Gerald Rosselloty (37) in the high court, although his trial date has not yet been decided.

Rosselloty appeared briefly before magistrate Divesh Mootheram yesterday.

State prosecutor Ricky van Wyk told the court that the DPP has said Rosselloty will be indicted in the high court, but added there are queries the investigating officer still has to attend to before the indictment can be finalised.

The investigating officer was to have drawn blood for testing from Rosselloty at court yesterday.

Rosselloty (37) is charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Nokwazi Mkhize, whose charred body was found on a mattress in the veld on April 17, as well as arson arising from a fire the previous night at the townhouse he rented in Hilton.

He is also accused of raping a six-year-old girl on September 3, 2006.

His case was postponed to August 4. Rosselloty is still in custody having abandoned his application for bail.
