Hilton outages ‘possible’

2012-10-09 00:00

IF Hilton residents used electricity sparingly on specific days, they should not experience outages during the current multimillion-rand powerline upgrade, the Msunduzi Municipality said yesterday.

Spokesperson Brian Zuma said there is a risk of outages during construction of the new overhead lines to Hilton from the Retief primary sub-station, but this was not a certainty.

The Witness reported that parts of Hilton would be without power from 7.30 am until 3 pm yesterday. This would also apply on Thursday, and on October 15 and 31.

Zuma said only one line would be operational during those times. Although contingencies have been put in place to avoid outages, he warned residents to minimise their load on the network in the specified periods.

“The main purpose of upgrading this circuit is to stabilise electricity supply to our customers in the Hilton and Sweetwaters areas,” he said.
