Hit-and-run: ‘Out-of-town’ driver runs local off N3

2011-04-14 00:00

A MAN was injured on the N3 in Pietermaritzburg when his vehicle was allegedly pushed off the road before it hit a bridge pillar yesterday afternoon.

The man told ER24 paramedics that he saw a vehicle with “out-of-town number plates” coming up behind him at about 5.30 pm.

The vehicle then allegedly drove into the lane that the victim was travelling in, cutting the driver off and causing him to lose control. The bakkie crashed into the pillar of the New England Road bridge.

“The man was lucky enough to survive the accident, and he was treated on scene for moderate to serious injuries. He was taken to Medi-Clinic for further treatment,” said ER24 spokesperson Vanessa Jackson. She said paramedics were told the alleged culprit did not stop at the scene. — Witness Reporter.
