Hit and run kills ‘Ilanga’ employee

2009-09-26 00:00

MOSES Madlala, an Ilanga newspaper circulation manager, was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Durban yesterday morning.

According to eyewitness Nkululeko Ndlazi, Madlala’s colleague, the accident occurred at about 5.45 am while he was on duty.

“Immediately after we finished [putting up newspapers] posters, he jumped out [of the car] to fix a piece of rubber on the back window that used to trouble us. I was inside pushing the window, when the truck knocked into him,” says Nkululeko.

He said the speeding truck was turning a corner, which made it impossible for him and other colleagues on the scene to see its registration number and the company logo. The truck, carrying a maroon container, did not stop.

Madlala died at the scene.

He was described as a “good person to work with” and was remembered for his ever-present smile and happy nature.

Captain Khephu Ndlovu said cases of culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving are being investigated. No arrests have been made.
