Hockey: Raiders take title at inter-province tourney

2011-08-23 00:00

TWO goals by Gareth Carr and one from Taine Paton gave the KZN Coastal Raiders a 3-1 victory over Western Province in the final of the SA Men’s Hockey Inter-provincial Tournament at Kaspersky Park in Randburg on Saturday.

WP midfielder and SA captain Austin Smith netted a penalty corner for the half-time score to read 1-1.

Carr had a hand in every Raiders goal in what was a superb team effort by captain Lloyd Madsen and head coach Ryan Hack’s squad, an effort that brought the Durban lads their third consecutive SA men’s hockey title after wins in 2009 in PMB and last year in PE.
