Hockey tourney starts

2013-07-02 00:00

BOTH the U16 and U18 Inter Provincial Hockey Tournaments started yesterday and will run through to Saturday.

The U18 tournament is centred at Rondebosch BHS in Cape Town and the U16 at St John’s College in Johannesburg.

The two KwaZulu-Natal regions, Inland and Coastal, both have two teams at each venue, where the pools have been organised on the results of the IPTs held in 2012.

At U18 level the Coastals A and B sides are both in the A division after the B side moved into the A section ahead of Inland B who were in the A section in 2012. Both will again be hoping for A section status in 2014.

The two KZN A teams are in opposite pools in the U18 IPT and both will be hoping to finish top of their pool and then to meet one another in the final.

KZN Coastal A are in the A pool together with Coastal B, Southern Gauteng, Northerns, Eastern Province and Western Province B. KZN Inland A is in Pool B together with Amathole (previously Border), Western Province A, Boland, SWD and Southern FS.

The U16s in Johannesburg have the same format, but both KZN Coastal and Inland are in Pool B. The other teams in Pool B are Southern Gauteng, Boland, Northerns and SWD.
