Hooper on the trail of the truth

2011-01-12 00:00

KIRSTY Hooper, born on the south coast, is the proud owner of Veritas — a criminal and private truth verification service company. The company makes use of polygraph tests and private investigators to uncover the truth in just about any situation. Kirsty has an international diploma in forensic psychotherapy that she obtained in Pietermaritzburg. The Witness caught up with her.

What is it about your job that you enjoy most?

HOOPER: Showing that truthful people who are being doubted are, in fact, telling the truth. That is the most rewarding part.

What do you enjoy most about the south coast?

HOOPER: It is small and homely.

How do you spend your time when you’re away from work?

HOOPER: To be honest, I’ve spent so much time on work lately that I don’t really have any time away from it.

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?

HOOPER: Being the best forensic psychotherapist in KwaZulu-Natal.

What is the biggest problem facing South Africa?

HOOPER: A lack of education.

Where would you like to visit most and why?

HOOPER: Ireland. It looks great in the movies; lush and green.

What is your nickname?

HOOPER: Everyone calls me Hoops.

Sharks or Bulls?

HOOPER: Sharks.

Where do you enjoy going on the coast?

HOOPER: Any beach — I love the waves crashing.

What is your secret weapon in the kitchen?

HOOPER: Steak fingers. I learnt how to make them at a pizza shop I worked at and I promised my bosses I would never let anybody know the recipe.

Why did you go into this line of work?

HOOPER: I remember when I was young and my dad used to try and find out if I had been lying. He could tell by grabbing my wrists and feeling my pulse. That always intrigued me.
