Horse and Hound Extravaganza

2010-03-26 00:00

THE Coastal Horse Care Unit (CHCU) and Animal Lodge invite everyone with a dog to participate in their Horse & Hound Extravaganza billed for Easter Monday on April 5.

The Horse & Hound Extravaganza is an event to raise funds for animal welfare, said Gill Olmesdahl, the CHCU manager. “There will be dog walks, a flea market and lots of competitions.”

The event runs from 9 am till 3 pm at the CHCU farm in Cato Ridge and the two hosts intend to make it an annual extravaganza.

CHCU said anyone may bring their dog provided it is kept on a leash.

Lots of fun activities are promised, including a relaxing walk in the countryside and fun competitions such as best photo, owner or dog look-alikes, ugliest and cutest dog, best trick/voice/hair-do and best dressed or matching outfits.

“The competition highlight of the day will be the ‘Supadog Challenge’ at 11 am where owners and their dogs will need to complete a course of simple tests to determine who really has the best friend of the day, after which all pedigreed dogs will be invited to participate in the parade of breeds,” the CHCU said.

A flea market where food and refreshments will be on sale will be set up, otherwise anyone is allowed to bring a picnic basket along. Children will be entertained with a Bugs Bunny Easter Egg hunt.

Entry is R20 per vehicle for the day, which includes safe parking and entry into a lucky draw where the winner and their companion will get to spend two days at the Cavern Berg Resort, all expenses paid. All dog competitions will be priced at R5 per dog.

Directions will be clearly marked from the Cato Ridge turn-off from the N3, the CHCU said.
