Hospice: tree of lights today

2010-12-03 00:00

MSUNDUZI Hospice will be hosting its annual Tree of Lights event today.

A 10 metre metal tree will be switched on at 7.30 pm after a short ceremony starting at 6.30 pm at the Hospice conference centre in Zwartkop Road, Prestbury.

The ceremony is non-denominational and all are welcome. Members of the public can purchase a light for R30 and proceeds will go to Msunduzi Hospice.

Every year the Tree of Lights is switched on to spread the message of remembrance and goodwill over the festive season, a time which is often difficult for those grieving the death of a loved one.

Anila Sewlall, spokesperson for Msunduzi Hospice, says the event is a way of remembering, acknowledging and celebrating the lives of those who have died, as well as an opportunity for family and friends to create a new tradition while remembering a loved one.

“We take life for granted. Only when life is threatened do we really appreciate the gift of life. The ceremony is to help those who are bereaved,” says Sewlall.

Light meals and tea will be available from 5pm.
