Hot tunes: Gagasi FM picks two winners in 'Battle of the DJs' competition

2009-06-02 00:00

THE Vodacom Battle of the DJs hosted by Gagasi FM lived up to expectations as the two finalists Sanele Fabulous Ndalwane and Mpume Madondo were crowned as winners during the competition’s grand finale in Durban on Friday.

The two winners, who emerged victorious among the thousands of applicants, will share the winnings, which include I-phones and computers, as well as many other generous prizes, but most importantly, a year’s contract working as a DJ for Gagasi FM.

According to Bob Mabena, Gagasi manager, Ndalwane and Madondo had left the station with no choice but to choose the two as winners because they had proved themselves indispensible to the station.

Mabena said “In the end no one at Gagasi could bear to lose out on either of them as DJs. They are such different individuals and they bring completely different styles and talents to the station”.

Ndalwane, who comes from Port Shepstone and was raised by his grandmother after being orphaned as a child, said he was thankful for his victory. He said he was not surprised by the decision to choose both him and Madondo as winners.

“I knew it was going to be close between Madondo and I. I heard her show and she is very good.”

Madondo, who comes from Esikhawini, said she never thought she would be chosen as one of the winners. She said the judge’s decision to choose the two of them as winners validated her decision to commute between Johannesburg and Durban by bus every Friday just to present her show.

Vodacom KZN’s executive head of department: sales and marketing Wanda Matandela congratulated the winners and lauded them as great ambassadors for Vodacom.
