Housebreaking: Hilton couple's close shave with gun-wielding criminals

2011-08-08 00:00

A HILTON couple are lucky to be alive after gun-wielding robbers entered their house on Friday night and held them up while ransacking the house for their valuabes.

Police spokesperson Lieutanant Joey Jeevan said Owen Solimon of Cypress Road contacted the police after he heard noises inside his yard on Friday night.

Upon investigating, Jeevan said, Solimon saw someone taking his electric front gate off the rails.

Solimon’s wife rushed to call the police and before he went outside to check what was happening, he was confronted in his passage by four men. They had entered by breaking the dining room door with a crowbar.

The four suspects, one carrying a 9 mm pistol, pushed Solimon and his wife into the bathroom and took his cellphone and the wife’s jewellery, while holding them at gunpoint.

They then ransacked the house. Among items stolen is a laptop, said Jeevan.

The thieves are still at large, although police arrived within minutes. The Witness was unable to get comment from the Solimans by the time of going to print.
