Hundreds attend service for Hume

2007-12-13 00:00

A portrait of Lynne Hume looked down on friends and family who gathered at the All Saints United Church yesterday for a service in celebration of the life of the loving mother, who is believed to have been murdered in October.

Hundreds of people came from all over the province to celebrate the life of the mother, friend and "angel", who was described as possessing immeasurable love, not only for her family, but for all the people around her.

Apart from family members — including Hume’s husband Mark and daughters Kirsty and Sam —hundreds of friends, colleagues, clients and others came to pay their respects to the estate agent.

"She had a huge and enormous heart and loved people with an intensity that was rare. She always made you feel like her world revolved around you," said one speaker.

One of Hume’s friends remarked on the irony that she was born in the Free State, where she is thought to have died a horrible death.

On October 24, police at Kestel in the Free State were alerted to a burnt-out car on a farm road. It turned out to be Hume’s Volvo. A woman’s body was in the car, but it has not yet been conclusively identified as that of the missing Hume.

Durban-based IT businessman Muziwendoda Kunene has been charged with her kidnapping and murder.
