Hunt for hijacked truck full of deadly poison

HAVE you seen this truck and its deadly load?

Police are searching for a truck carrying the highly toxic chemical potassium cyanide that was hijacked in Midrand on Friday morning last week.

The Krome Metal Chemicals truck was doing a delivery for a customer in Midrand, en route from Bedfordview, when it was allegedly hijacked.

Company director Ryszard Orlik said the truck was carrying four 1 000-litre containers of a potassium cyanide solution and one 1 000-litre container of non-hazardous Defoamex.

The potassium cyanide solution is used in the electroplating process of coin production. On the truck it was in white square heavy-duty plastic containers, surrounded by metal cages.

The truck is a white Isuzu eight-ton flatbed, registration number BX 62 ZP GP, with blue and grey “Krome Metal Chemicals” signage on its side and chemical safety boards on the front, sides and rear.

Orlik urged anyone who sees the truck or containers to immediately contact the investigating officer, Captain Sebopa, at 079 782 4249 or their nearest police station.

He warned that potassium cyanide is extremely hazardous. It is a clear white colour, with an almond smell. It can cause death if swallowed, inhaled or touched.
