IFP, MF, NFF busy with preparations

2014-01-30 00:00

THE IFP, Minority Front and National Freedom Front will be launching their manifestos and unveiling their candidates for the provincial legislature and Parliament over the next two months.

Only the ANC and DA have completed the nomination of their candidates so far, with only the DA making public its candidate lists.

Yesterday, IFP spokesperson Joshua Mazibuko said his party had yet to start the nomination of candidates for KZN legislature and Parliament.

Mazibuko also said the provincial opposition party’s manifesto would be launched in March.

The Minority Front hopes to unveil its manifesto on March 1, said party leader Shameen Thakur-Rajbansi.

Thakur-Rajbansi said candidate nomination was expected to be completed in the third week of February.

She said the nominations were going well and the party’s preparation for by-elections in Phoenix had contributed to the delay in finalising the candidate lists.

The party has sought to put on a united front since last month after party leaders reached an out-of-court settlement agreement that provided for Thakur-Rajbansi to be the leader.

The Minority Front had been embroiled in a leadership dispute since Amichand Rajbansi died in December 2011.

Meanwhile, the National Freedom Party plans to hold its manifesto launch at Curries Fountain in Durban on February 16.

NFP secretary-general Nhanhla Khubisa said the party was still busy with the nomination of candidates for both the legislature and Parliament.
