IFP: Treasurer-general resigns

2010-10-13 00:00

INKATHA Freedom Party faces yet another challenge with the resignation of its treasurer-general, Alex Hamilton.

IFP secretary-general Reverend Musa Zondi said Hamilton tendered his resignation and the party has appointed Narend Singh in his place.

Zondi said: “The IFP’s long-standing treasurer-general tendered his resignation at the party’s weekly national executive committee meeting, stating that he felt that after eleven-and-a-half years it was time for a new approach in the important post of treasurer-general of the party.

“With the forthcoming local government elections looming and by resigning at this stage, this will give the new treasurer-general ample time to orientate himself.”

Hamilton said his commitment remains steadfast and his resignation does not affect his membership and continued support for the IFP and its leadership.

Singh takes over the position from November 1.

The IFP is meanwhile facing a serious challenge because of schisms in the party, which have seen its elective conference being postponed for more than a year.
