IPL: Pollard powers Mumbai to top of table

2013-05-14 00:00

THE Mumbai Indians beat the Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets in their IPL clash in Mumbai yesterday, thanks to some extraordinary hitting from Kieron Pollard, as the hosts chased down 179 with three balls still remaining.

The victory sent Mumbai to the top of the IPL table, knocking Chennai off their perch as Pollard powered his way to 66 off 27 balls, a knock that included eight sixes and two fours, as the Sunrisers snatched defeat from the jaws of victory thanks to one horrific over from Thisara Perera.

Mumbai needed 62 off 24 with seven wickets in hand. It was then that Pollard opened his arms, after Perera was taken to the cleaners, with 29 runs coming off his over. Pollard smashed three consecutive sixes.
