Ian Bell: England are not imposters in top ICc ranking

2012-07-26 00:00

LONDON — Middle order batsman Ian Bell insists England are not imposters at the top of the world rankings despite a run of five defeats in nine Tests in 2012.

England’s innings and 12-run defeat to South Africa in the first Test at the Oval on Monday made a mockery of their lofty position in the ICC rankings.

Bell said: “You don’t just look at the last nine Tests, you look over the last two or three years. That’s why we are ranking number one.”

England know their position is hanging by a thread and must find a solution ahead of the second Test in Leeds on August 2, if they are to prevent SA from winning the Test series and being number one.
