Ice cream and indie rock at the roadhouse

2008-10-10 00:00

The pick of the weekend is Rock ’n Roll at the Roadhouse, which features Pietermaritzburg-based The Ranks and Durban band Five Fold as the next featured acts in this month’s Pietermaritzburg Music Market. The event is being held at the Autobahn Roadhouse (Hayfields) from 7 pm tomorrow.

Five Fold is fronted by Brad Klynsmith, a singer and songwriter who has produced a solo album through media publishing house Sesalos. The indie rock trio have performed locally and received great responses at schools and each New Year at the Just Jesus Music Festival.

Indie rockers The Ranks have made a stellar impression on the youth market, with their mix of “choreography, girly screams and British guitar hooks”. The band has been played in 5fm’s demo bag competition and are needing votes on the 5fm website. Their up-and-coming EP Keep Your Pants On mixes frontman Neil du Plessis’s irreverent melodies with garage-tinged production. Watch out for other standout tracks like Superman.

Also playing during the evening is a marimba band. There will be big sound, lots of food and cheap ice cream. For all accounts, it looks to be a fun night out. R15 gets you in. Inquiries: 071 104 6768.
