'Idols': Will Howick's Pixie or Jason go home tonight

2009-03-01 00:00

Last night’s Idols saw better performances from all 12 remaining constants, but if the judge’s comments about their favourites for the night are anything to go by, our local hopefuls might be singing a sad goodbye tonight.

Former Howick High pupils Pixie Bennett and Jason Hartman delivered good (enough) performances, according to the judging panel. However, when asked by Idols presenter Liezel van der Westhuizen who they expect to see in tonight’s top three, neither was mentioned by any of the judges.

Jason must have taken Randall Abrahams’s comment about choosing songs that are popular with the ladies to heart, as he chose to sing Percy Sledge’s When a Man Loves a Woman yesterday.

The judges, particularly Mara Louw, loved his performance — or at least thought it was competent enough. Jason, who appeared in last week’s bottom half, seemed to have delivered a better performance this time around.

Pixie opted to sing Sam Sparro’s Black and Gold.

The judges could not deny her star quality, but were — once again – unhappy about her choice of song.

“You’re a great performer,” said Idols softy Mara. “You have all the things that a pop performer needs… But that song did nothing for me.”

To keep our Idols locals on the show, call 086 22 777 06 or SMS Pixie to 34680 to vote for Pixie.

For Jason, call 086 22 777 10 or SMS Jason to 34680.

Catch Idols tonight at 7 pm.
