‘Idols’: six-pack that caught judge’s eye

2013-03-09 00:00

IDOLS judge Unathi Msengana clearly has an eye for more than just singing talent and at Wednesday’s auditions in Durban she got to see rather a lot of Wesley Osbourne and Lindani Myeni, when the two showed off their six-packs to the camera.

Osbourne (22), of Amanzimtoti, who works as a counsellor at a summer holiday camp, said he entered Idols because he loves to try new things; while Estcourt fitter-and-turner Myeni (21), who plays rugby in his spare time, tried his luck after his mom told him he could sing.

Mama Myeni was right and her son’s powerful interpretation of John Legend’s So High earned him a golden ticket to Sun City. There was also good news for Osbourne, who sang Bruno Mars’s It Will Rain, from Twilight: Breaking Dawn. With the help of votes from Msengana and Gareth Cliff, he also got a coveted spot in the next round of Idols.

The judges, Randall Abrahams, Msengana and Gareth Cliff, gave out 21 golden tickets at the Durban auditions.

“I think Durban is amazing,” Msengana said. “Talented and amazing and joyful and touching.”
