‘Idols’ tour ends as top 2 face final song

2007-12-07 00:00

During an interview before a radio chat with East Coast Radio’s Damon Beard, the two agreed that they have hardly had time to feel nervous.

They said they were focusing on all the activities around them — like yesterday’s performance at the Gateway Mall — as well as the excitement of jetting around the country in a private plane.

Large numbers of Durban fans turned up for waves, autographs and even the odd hug.

However, all is not fun and games and the girls have been practising during “every free moment”. They will return to Johannesburg today to practise with the band at the stadium this weekend.

The thing that Andriette loved most about the competition was “going out on stage” and the time she liked least was Monday nights when competitors were given their marching orders.

Both Andriette and Jody said they enjoyed meeting up with the top 10 contestants during their countrywide tour. They said it felt so right as the friends have become just like a family and they both look forward to singing with them again on Sunday.

According to Jody — who has just passed grade 11 — she will probably be remembered most for her father’s appearance at her audition. She said that he supported her throughout. She said that if she wins, she will work extremely hard, singing and completing her schooling at the same time.

She said she would probably move to Johannesburg with her family, as they would not allow her to live on her own.

Andriette said she is already making plans to move to Johannesburg. She intends to work hard and make a success of her career. “My mind is set. I want to get out there and sing for the people who have supported me,” she said.

The two-hour final, at 5.30 pm on Sunday, is already sold out.
