Illovo Eston: locals gear up for MTB

2010-07-31 00:00

THE Eston community has clicked into high gear with final preparations for this year’s Illovo Eston MTB Challenge, which will be held tomorrow at the Eston Farmers Club 20 minutes from Pietermaritzburg.

The four different courses are all completed and ready for the huge field expected on the day. KZN’s leading riders have all confirmed their entries and are sure to do battle in the 60 km Illovo Marathon with other top South African riders still expected.

Despite the absence of Kevin Evans and Yolande Speedy, victors in the men’s and ladies divisions in 2009, racing at the sharp end will still be of the highest quality.

But Illovo Eston is not all about the professionals. The 40 km Aquelle half marathon and 18 km Illovo fun ride account for the bulk of riders on the day.

These participants are more interested in the beautiful Eston scenery, fabulous country hospitality and awesome value for money.

The first 3 000 pre-entries in the three longer races will qualify for goodie bags and high quality moisture management shirts, in addition to cold Aquelle flavoured water, medals and other goodies available at the finish.

For those who have not entered yet, late entries are available at registration today from 3 pm and tomorrow from 6 pm at the Eston Club.

For more information and pre-entries please go to www.roag.co.za.
