Imbali pupils: We’ll stay close to home and make our families proud

2015-01-07 00:00

PUPILS at Imbali’s high schools yesterday said they favoured their home town as the place to further their studies.

With one distinction, Thandeka Dlamini from Mehlo Senior Secondary School said she was too nervous to go to the bigger cities because of the challenges that she might come across.

“I will remain here and study teaching at the Durban University of Technology at the Indumiso campus. Many things can be too tempting when you are away from home,” she said.

Seluleko Mbatha from Sukuma Comprehensive High School, who also wanted to study at DUT, said she discovered her passion for teaching at a very young age. “I noticed a lack in the education system of this country. My aim is to improve the quality of basic education and mentor young pupils to always prioritise when it comes to their education.”

Nokuzola Xaba from Sukuma will also stay in the City of Choice to study media at the DUT or Creative Arts College. She said: “I want to use my voice as a tool to reach out to many people and to inspire them as a radio personality.”

Xaba added that studying away from home would cost her parents a fortune and remaining at home will save them money.

Kholwani Gili from Mehlo said he chose to study public management at DUT to represent and serve the public when he gets his qualification.
