India: association set up for doctors, dentists

2011-11-17 00:00

AN association of doctors and dentists who qualified in India was launched at the Consulate-General of India in Durban recently.

One of the organisers, Dr Chandralekha Mohan, a consultant in family medicine at UKZN, said yesterday the main aim is to create a forum where medical professionals who qualified in India can come together to improve the delivery of quality health care to all South Africans, “apart from the fact that they can meet socially”.

The association, which has had the blessing of Consul-General Anil Kumar Sharan, aims to recruit medical and dental professionals who qualified in India since 1960.

Professor Jerry Coovadia, a respected name in the medical fraternity, gave a brief history of medical graduates studying in India.

Prospective members are asked to call members of the steering committee, Dr Chandralekha Mohan at 083 743 9279 or e-mail rekhasingh001@gmail.com, or Dr R.B. Ramchandra at 084 777 0055 or e-mail mwraj@mweb.co.za.
