Indoor sports facility to open in city

2008-05-21 00:00

Having identified a gap in the local market within the sphere of social and competitive indoor-sports and entertainment, a Pietermaritzburg couple has opened a sports and entertainment venue at Camps Drift Park.

The new 1 200 square metre facility, which will be officially launched tomorrow, boasts two quality indoor pitches, catering for indoor cricket, soccer and netball.

The business is the brainchild of Akesh Maharaj, a pharmacist by profession, and his wife Sharusha.

They told The Witness that their aim is to draw a cross-section of clientele, including families, young people and corporate sports-teams.

They have invested a significant amount of time and money in developing the concept.

Equipment and facilities that have either been acquired or developed include high-quality indoor fibre-grass, secure netting with a stable court structure and change rooms.

The facility boasts a variety of indoor games, as well as a number of other games specifically for children.

"There is a lack of such a facility in the Pietermaritzburg area and we hope that it attracts children and teenagers who can [then] engage in positive social activities, keeping them away from negative influences," explained Akesh Maharaj.
