2011-05-12 00:00

A MARGATE resident found the body of an infant in the veld near the town at the weekend.

According to Margate Police spokeswoman, Pumzile Makaula, she appeared to have been murdered by strangulation as there were bruises on her neck.

“The little girl appears to be around three months-old and was found in the Ngunjini Ward, Nqabeni Area.

“A member of the Ezinqoleni community came across the body and reported it to police,” she said.

According to police the last case of an infant murdered in the area was at least seven years ago, so at this stage it appears to be an isolated case.

Police are trying to locate the mother of the child and are urging anyone with information to contact them.

The body has been taken to Harding government mortuary, where a postmortem will be conducted.

The Ezinqoleni police, are investigating a case of murder.

Anybody with information is urged to contact the investigating officer, detective captain Jabulani Ngcobo, on 082 411 5341.
