Injured robber seeks police’s help

2013-12-31 00:00

A ROBBER had to seek help from the police after he was shot by a security guard during a robbery in the city centre on Saturday afternoon.

The 22-year-old and his accomplice had held up two teenagers with a knife and robbed them of their belongings at the corner of Boshoff and Langalibalele streets.

Police said the security guard (30) was doing routine patrol duties when he noticed the robbery in progress. Two men, one armed with a knife, were confronting two teenagers on the side of the road.

The guard immediately shouted at the suspects to stop what they were doing. Instead, they turned on the guard and threatened him and started moving towards him.

He warned them, but they continued in his direction. The guard then fired multiple shots at the suspects, hitting the one suspect in the right thigh. Both suspects fled on foot.

The injured suspect sought help from the police, but the other suspect escaped. Police recovered a stolen BlackBerry cellphone and a knife, believed to have been used in the incident, from the injured suspect. It is believed that he may be linked to other robberies in the city.

The arrested suspect was treated in hospital and released to the police.
