Intruder strips down and snoozes in woman’s bed

A NAKED cat burglar and his unorthodox hiding place caused a stir in Northdale this weekend, after he was found hiding in a bed.

The man, who has yet to be identified, was arrested and remains under police guard in a Pietermaritzburg hospital.

The strange tale started when Hashmitha Harripersad returned home after a night out in the early hours of yesterday morning and found her security gate ajar.

“I usually leave a lock hanging on the gate, but it was missing. When my boyfriend and I tried to open the front door it wouldn’t move,” she said.

Bemused, she tried to open the back door.

“The back door also wouldn’t move so we had to break a window. My boyfriend climbed in and went to the door and saw that someone had locked it from inside.

“When I walked in, I could hear very heavy breathing coming from my bedroom. I looked inside and saw this naked man lying on my bed. I just screamed and my mind went blank when I ran out of the house,” she said.

The burglar had snuck into the house and locked the door behind him, before removing his shoes and neatly placing them next to Harripersad’s.

“His clothes were on the floor and he was lying under the covers. We managed to trap him inside the room and called the police.

“I think when we woke him up he fell off the bed and hit his head on the cupboard.”

She said that after nearly two hours and repeated calls to the police, they arrived and took the nude burglar away.

Her three-legged dog, Snoopy, did not deter the bare-skinned bandit.

Police are investigating the matter.
