Is this KZN’s luckiest woman?

SOME might say she is the luckiest woman in KwaZulu-Natal, and with over 60 competitions won in the last year, she just might be.

Durbanite Tara Parker caught the competition bug in December 2013 and once she started winning, it seemed it was impossible to stop.

Parker, a teacher, has won some exciting prizes over the last year, including an all expenses paid trip to Cancun, Mexico, a ride in a hot air balloon, a helicopter ride, and a party bus experience for her and her friends.

“The first competition I remember winning was a pair of Calvin Klein sunglasses from a magazine. I was so excited when I found out I had won.”

Parker’s biggest and most exciting win, however, was the trip to Cancun, through a milkshake brand, which she won by singing a Mexican song live on a radio station.

“I won the trip of a lifetime. For someone who had never travelled before, and had always wanted to experience the world, this was a dream come true.

“I visited the amazing temple of Chichen Itza and swam in a cenote [a natural pit or sinkhole], just a few of my wonderful experiences. It was by far the biggest, and most exciting and fun competition I have ever taken part in.”

Parker said she felt she was a lucky person as she had won so many competitions, but it was also her family and friends’ support and knowledge of the rules that helped with her success. “You need to prepare yourself for disappointment. I have had many disappointments before, but it is all part of the competition fun.

“You need to have an open mind and enter a competition mainly for fun, with the idea that you might win, but if you don’t, you have lost nothing.”

Parker said she always has lots of fun entering competitions which require you to show how much you love and support a brand being her favourite.

These require you to take a creative picture of yourself with the product in question, post this on a social network and then to get friends and family to vote for you.

The Malvern Primary School teacher said she has also made many friends in the competition world.
